June 10, 1934 - July 16, 2023 John Henry Merrill, 89, of Alpena passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at home. John was born June 10, 1934, in Petoskey, Michigan to the late Willard and Ada (Clumb) Merrill. On Jan. 24, 1953, he married Vivian Hankins. She preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 2019. John owned and operated K & J Roofing, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Under His Wings Fellowship, Royal Rangers, and New Life Fellowship. July 12, 1956 - July 16, 2023 When Michael E. Sweet was born on July 12, 1956, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Clarence and Jimmy Mae (Buckner) Sweet, he was already thinking about fishing. On Jan. 2, 1982, he married Ann M. Romel in Alpena, Michigan, and we’re pretty sure he was thinking about fishing then. Nov. 12, 1919 - July 14, 2023 Marian Clara Schwarzkopf Bennett, 103 years young, passed away at Besser Senior Living, on July 14, surrounded by her loving family. Marian was born on Nov. 12, 1919, to Hugo T. and Clara (Sting) Schwarzkopf in Bach, Michigan where German was the primary language spoken. Her family later moved to Saginaw where she graduated from high school. She acquired the nickname Marty while attending college at Michigan State Normal College (now EMU). Marty was a member of the Pi Kappa Sigma Sorority and graduated with honors majoring in English, Latin and Greek. ...
