Nov. 12, 1919 – July 14, 2023

Marian Clara Schwarzkopf Bennett, 103 years young, passed away at Besser Senior Living, on July 14, surrounded by her loving family.

Marian was born on Nov. 12, 1919, to Hugo T. and Clara (Sting) Schwarzkopf in Bach, Michigan where German was the primary language spoken. Her family later moved to Saginaw where she graduated from high school. She acquired the nickname Marty while attending college at Michigan State Normal College (now EMU). Marty was a member of the Pi Kappa Sigma Sorority and graduated with honors majoring in English, Latin and Greek. Marty went on to teach high school Latin and English for 32 years, ending her teaching career in Grand Ledge, Michigan.

Marty married Richard H. Bennett on Aug. 6, 1946, and they were married for 54 years. Dick preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2001. They had three children Thomas and twins Sally and Susan.

Marty and Dick enjoyed golfing and playing bridge with friends. They spent many winters in Zephyrhills, Florida. Marty was very proud of her hole-in-one and continued golfing until the age of 97. In her earlier years Marty enjoyed trout fishing with her husband and mother and father-in-law. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, crossword puzzles, bingo and being with her family. On Saturday afternoons in the fall, you would always find Marty watching her beloved Michigan Wolverines play football.
