Sarah Elizabeth “Sally” George, age 81, of Alpena, died on April 26, 2026. She was born on June 1, 1944, in Effingham, Illinois, and lived a life marked by love, faith, and devotion to her family and community.

Sally was the daughter of the late Mervin and Bessie (Lewis) Elliott. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Charles Elliott and Martha Shanks. On June 9, 1962, she married Wesley George at the Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene in Alton, Illinois, and together they shared many years of marriage until his passing on Dec. 21, 2018. Their life together was built on commitment, faith, and the many joys of raising a family.

She is survived by her children, Richard George and his wife Pam, Thomas George and his wife Lisa, and Jodie George. Sally is also survived by several nieces and nephews who will remember her with affection and gratitude.

Sally spent many years working as a secretary at the Mississippi Lime Company, where she was known for her dependability, kindness, and strong work ethic. She took pride in her work and carried herself with quiet grace in all that she did. Her life reflected a steady spirit and a genuine care for the people around her.

Outside of work, Sally found joy in many creative and meaningful pursuits. She loved quilting, coloring, jewelry making, and cake decorating, and for a time she even owned her own cake decorating business. Her hands were often busy creating something beautiful, and she found satisfaction in sharing her talents with others. She also treasured her church life and the time she spent with her family, which remained at the center of her heart throughout her life.

Those who knew Sally will remember her as a loving and faith-filled woman whose presence brought comfort and warmth to others. She lived with a deep devotion to her beliefs and to the people she loved. Her family was her greatest joy, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and steadfast love that will continue through the generations she helped shape.
