Alpena boys basketball narrowly falls to John Glenn, losing 54-51
ALPENA — In a closely contested game, the Alpena Wildcats boys basketball team came up just short, losing to John Glenn 54-51.
Despite a strong performance on both ends of the court, Alpena was unable to complete a late-game comeback.
Connor Cameron led Alpena with an all-around performance, scoring a game-high 21 points, while also contributing key steals and several blocks on defense.
Oliver Duthler and Eddie Prue added 13 and 10 points, respectively, to round out the team’s top scorers.
Throughout the game, Alpena showcased strong defensive efforts, particularly in limiting John Glenn’s rebounding opportunities. The Wildcats also took advantage of their opportunities at the free-throw line, converting a significant number of attempts to keep the game close.
However, the third period saw a surge from John Glenn, as they closed the scoring gap and set the stage for the final quarter.
With just three minutes left in the game, John Glenn took a four-point lead. Alpena fought back, narrowing the deficit to just one point with under two minutes remaining, but could not regain the lead.
Turnovers and fouls were a factor for Alpena, including a couple of key violations that disrupted their momentum. A traveling call on John Glenn in the fourth quarter briefly shifted the momentum back to Alpena, but John Glenn managed to hold on for the win.
The Wildcats will look to build on their defensive strengths and minimize mistakes as they prepare for their next game in Gaylord on Thursday.
