PREP ROUNDUP: AHS swim competes, gets PRs

On Friday and Saturday, the Alpena High School girls varsity swim team traveled to Saginaw Valley State University to compete in the 2024 ISC Championships.

On Day One, the individual events were held and there were a lot of best times by Alpena swimmers.

Among those swimmers included Addison Wesaw, Hailey Diemond, and Gabriella Tolan in the 200-yard Freestyle.

In Event 4, Elizabeth Rabbideau, Haley Stenz, Kaelyn Roznowski, Annette Faircloth, Allie Donajkowski, Madelyn Farley, and Bailee Diemond all had PR’s in the 50-yard Freestyle.

In Event 7, Haley Stenz, Kaelyn Roznowski, Tryst Bukowiecki, Annette Faircloth, and Addison Wesaw PR’d in the 100-yard Freestyle.

In Event 8, Elizabeth Rabbideau swam in the 500-yard Freestyle and topped her PR.

In Event 10, Allie Donajkowski, Bailee Diemond, Olivia Sherwood, and Madelyn Farley all PR’d in the 100-yard Backstroke.

In Event 11, the 100-yard Breastroke, Gabriella Tolan swam her personal best.

The day ended with only the top 16 swimmers of each event advancing to the finals for Day Two.

On Day Two, the relay races were swum.

In the first event, the 200-yard Medley Relay, Alpena took fourth place with Olivia Sherwood, Sarah Rabbideau, Tryst Bukowiecki, and Elizabeth Rabbideau. They also took 11th place with Bailee Diemond, Gabriella Tolan, Eva Trainer, and Haley Stenz. Both relays had their PR times.

In Event 4, the 50-yard Freestyle, Elizabeth Rabbideau, Haley Stenz, and Olivia Sherwood all PR’d.

In Event 7, the 100-yard Freestyle, Tryst Bukowiecki, and Haley Stenz both had their PR.

In Event 9, the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, swimmers Annette Faircloth, Kaelyn Roznowski, Eva Trainer, and Haley Stenz PR’d to earn seventh place. Madelyn Farley, Bailee Diemond, Hailey Diemond, and Gabriells Tolan also had their PR in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay earning 11th place.

In Event 11, both Sarah Rabbideau and Gabriella Tolan swam, having their best times.

In Event 12, the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, two of Alpena’s teams raced, breaking their times. Olivia Sherwood, Elizabeth Rabbideau, Tryst Bukowiecki, and Sarah Rabbideau were one of the groups. Madelyn Farley, Annette Faircloth, Hailey Diemond, and Kaelyn Roznowski were in the second group.

With this being only the second season for the Wildcats to attend the meet, the swimmers did very well, head coach Jennifer Johnson said.

“The swim season is long and the team has continued to work each and every day,” she said. “Reflecting upon what the team has done for the entire season, it can be wrapped up into one word which is improved. We as coaches look forward to each meet to see the growth and even challenges the girls overcome. It has been a season of growth for everyone.”

ATLANTA VOLLEYBALL WINS DISTRICTS

Atlanta High School’s volleyball team won the district title defeating Onaway in the championship game in three sets. The final scores of each set were 26/24, 25/20, and 25/14.

ALCONA FOOTBALL LOSES

The Alcona High School Tigers football team saw their season end on Friday with a loss 32-26 against Inland Lakes.
