The Alpena Township Fire Department, Alpena Fire Department, and the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office responded to a small fire at North Coney Island in Alpena on Tuesday. A deputy from the sheriff’s office said it was a grease fire and when she arrived, black smoke was billowing through the roof. Customers who were enjoying lunch at the restaurant and people in the connected Michigan Secretary of State office were evacuated.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and it did not spread to the connecting Michigan Secretary of State office.
