Alpena man arrested on child porn charges

Following a months-long investigation, the Michigan State Police on Thursday arrested a 40-year-old Alpena man for possessing child pornography.

The man was lodged at the Alpena County Jail and he was arraigned Friday in 88th District Court on six counts of possession of child sexually abusive material, one count of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, and two counts of use of a computer to commit a crime. He was given a $100,000 cash surety bond.

A tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in August led police to obtain search warrants for the man’s Google accounts, where they discovered several videos and photographs.

The Traverse City Computer Crimes Unit, the State Police’s Seventh District Emergency Support Team, the State Police K-9 Unit, and detectives from the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team aided troopers from the Alpena Post in their investigation.
