Free gun locks available
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and Michigan State Police remind residents that free gun locks are available at DHHS county offices and some local health departments.
The state is offering cable-style gun locks from Project ChildSafe through $500,000 in state funding. About 75,000 gun locks have been made available while supplies last.
State law requires gun owners to lock their guns when not in use if a child is or could be on the premises.
The Alpena County DHHS office is at 600 Walnut St., Alpena.
