LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Hillman baseball plays AuGres

Hillman High School’s baseball team defeated AuGres on Monday, setting their record at 9-9-2 overall and 4-0 in the North Star League Little Dipper Division.

Game one ended with a 13-1 win.

Hillman had seven hits and two errors. AuGres had two hits and three errors.

The Tigers nearly doubled their score in game two, winning 22-7.

Hillman had six hits and three errors that game, while AuGres had four hits and five errors.

Their next game is at home on Thursday against Atlanta.

ALCONA SOFTBALL TAKES TWO WINS

The Alcona Lady Tigers traveled to Whittemore-Prescott on Monday for their second contest of league play. Alcona took both wins on the day with scores of 13-1 and 18-10.

Their score now sits at 13-5 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Game one ended with a 13-1 Alcona win.

Miah Schopfer was on the mound last night pitching five innings. She struck out six, walked zero, and gave up three hits.

Offensively, Sage Gauthier had a homerun over centerfield, Olivia Borchardt added a single and double, Schopfer went four for four with singles, Jena Wambold had three homeruns and a single, Baylee Goddard added a single, and Hannah Renchenski also added a single.

Game two wrapped up at 18-10 with Alcona winning.

Addison Beatty was pitching game two. She pitched five innings striking out one, walking three, and gave up seven hits. Schopfer came in inning six to finish the game, striking out one, walking one, and allowing one hit.

Offensively, Beatty had two triples and a single, Borchardt had two doubles, Wambold had a single, Gracyn Tracy had a double, and Eliyana Grimshaw also added a single.

Coach Chelsea Neuenfelt said, “It feels great to be 4-0 for league play but we will have a lot to work on. We committed too many errors last night. The girls have the potential to do really well in post season play but need to have the confidence in themselves and not have so many errors. Heads up game play is something we will really need to focus on before heading into the end of the year.”

ALPENA GOLF COMPETES AT RED HAWK

On Tuesday, Alpena High School’s boys’ golf team traveled to Red Hawk in Tawas for the Braves Invitational.

As a team, the Wildcats scored 380. Avery Spicer led the team with 87, taking ninth place.

JV also played, shooting 425. Titus Spragg led JV with a 98.

The winner on Tuesday was Manistee with a 336.
