LANSING — State Rep. Cam Cavitt, R-Cheboygan, who represents Northeast Michigan, has introduced a resolution calling on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to send Michigan National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to assist Texas in its efforts to stop the flow of migrants entering the country illegally.

At least 19 other states have sent Guard troops to the border, Cavitt said in a news release Friday.

“The crisis at the southern border has gotten so far out of control that other states now must step in to clean up the federal government’s mess,” Cavitt said in a statement.
