The Michigan Department of Natural Resources firefighters are preparing for an early fire season as some have already responded to multiple wildfires this year.

Following a mild winter and last year’s hot and dry conditions, the DNR asks people to check the state’s burn permit webpage, michigan.gov/burnpermit, to see if weather conditions are safe.

The DNR also asks people who plan to burn yard debris to keep a water source and metal shovel nearby, never leave the fire unattended, to not burn on a windy day, and to completely put out the fire.
