Police, firefighters offer fireworks tips for the 4th

File photo

The Alpena Police and Fire departments remind residents that use of consumer fireworks are only permitted on June 29 through July 4, from 11 a.m. until 11:45 p.m.

Overnight use is prohibited, as is use on July 5.

Use of consumer fireworks on city property, including parks and beaches, is prohibited at all times.

Fire officials urge caution when using fireworks and recommend keeping a bucket of water or a garden hose close by when lighting fireworks. After fireworks complete their burning, to prevent a trash fire, douse the spent device with water from a bucket or hose before discarding the device.

Never use fireworks when impaired by alcohol or drugs, firefighters say.
