ALPENA ― A Grand Rapids man who invaded an Alpena home and held residents at gunpoint while demanding money will spend at least six years in prison, a judge decided on Monday.
Allan Hughes, 29, admitted last month that in April of 2021 he raided a home and beat a victim in the head with a gun before fleeing with an accomplice and eluding police for a week.
Police eventually arrested Hughes in Phoenix.
Last month, Hughes pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and several weapons charges. Charges of armed robbery, unlawful imprisonment, and first-degree home invasion were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
On Monday, Judge Ed Black sentenced Hughes to 57 months to 10 years in prison, plus a two-year mandatory sentence for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Hughes could face additional time because of parole violations, according to Alpena County Prosecutor Cynthia Muszynski.
