Local government roundup: Alpena Municipal Council approves 2022 parades for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Christmas

ALPENA

At its meeting on Dec. 6, the Alpena Municipal Council….

∫ confirmed the appointment of Nickolas Lee to the Recreational Advisory Board for a three-year term expiring on Dec. 1, 2024.

∫ approved the parades on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Christmas held in 2022.

∫ voted to award the property and liability insurance bid to the Michigan Municipal League for an annual premium of $139,948.

∫ attorney Bill Pfeifer delivered the first reading of ordinance 21-467, which amends chapter 18, section 18-1, of the medical marijuana facilities and adult-use marijuana.

∫ a representative of the SUEZ Engineering Department and Technical Services delivered a presentation, which was a study to discontinue fluoridation and action items. The next step will be to distribute information to the public.

∫ Nowak, to approve, as written, the purchase and sale agreement between GT Equities LLC and the city for the potential for sale of city property on U.S.-23 North.

COUNTY

The Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners met on Nov. 24 and….

∫ Received it’s annual audit report for fiscal year 2020-21.

∫ Voted to authorize the county clerk to sign the 2022 Swift and Sure Grant.

∫ Voted to issue a letter of support for the Ocqueoc Outdoor Center for an opportunity to apply for grant funds for historical displays at the Center.

∫ received an update from Presque Isle County Drain Commissioner Robert Macomber on the issues involving the Alverno Dam at Black Lake.

∫ Voted to ratify a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers Union.

∫ Entered closed session for the purposes of conferring with legal counsel regarding the National Prescription Opioid Lawsuit the county is party to.
