Alpena Township schedules public input session to discuss fire contract

ALPENA — A public input session addressing the proposed contract for fire services between Alpena Township and Alpena is slated for June 24, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the township office.

The township board of trustees scheduled the meeting in order to answer questions about the contract, operations, and finances.

Public comment will be limited to three minutes, and residents will not be able to make comment a second time, until everyone gets an opportunity to speak once.

The township tried to host the meeting at the APlex, but if it did so, it would not have been able to host the meeting on Zoom for technical reasons. The trustees thought offering the meeting online added another leave of transparency.

Occupancy at the meeting may be limited, as social distancing restriction will apply, but the township said residents will be cycled in and out of the boardroom to make sure everyone who wants to make public comment is heard.

People can also submit comments in writing or email to the clerk’s office and they will be read during the meeting.
