PREP ROUNDUP: Alpena’s Bright wins BNC title in 400 dash

TRAVERSE CITY–Alpena’s Cooper Bright proved himself against the Big North Conference’s best on Wednesday, winning the 400 dash at the conference championships.

Bright also took second in the 200 dash (23.51) to earn second team all-conference honors and was also fourth in the 100 dash (11.79).

The Alpena boys and girls track teams finished fifth and sixth respectively.

Madi Szymanski took second in the girls 3,200 run for second team honors (11:24.92) and third in the 1,600 run (5:08.11).

Brittany Mischloney had a pair of seventh place finishes in the girls shot put (29-5) and discus (87-2) and Chloe Lawrence finished seventh in the pole vault (7-6).

The Alpena boys team had several fourth place finishes including: Hayden Allen, Elijah Allen, Jacob Kochanski and Hunter Hitzelberger in the 3,200 relay (9:05.19); Griffin Eggleston in the high jump (5-8) and Austin Heath in the pole vault (10-6). Jeremiah Bullis was sixth in the pole vault (9-6) and the team of Jesse Sheldon, Michael Herrmann, Sam Cook and Devin LaMay took sixth in the 400 relay (51.69) and sixth in the 800 relay (1:42.55).

BASEBALL

Alcona splits 2 games

AU GRES–The Alcona baseball team split a pair of games on Wednesday, beating Au Gres 20-3 and losing to Bay City All Saints 8-1.

In the opener, Gavin Walker was 4-for-4 for Alcona (10-7), Jacob Sytek was 2-for-2 and Zach Stephenson was 3-for-5 and also earned the win on the mound.

In the nightcap, Walker was 1-for-3 with a double; Sytek was 1-for-3 with a double; Eric Monnier was 1-for-1 and Jakob Tanner took the loss for the Tigers.

Alcona plays Hale on Tuesday in a pre-district game.
