ALPENA — Thunder Bay Junior High School will transition to remote learning Tuesday because of a confirmed COVID-19 infection that has potential to cause widespread transmission.

Alpena Public Schools Parent Involvement Coordinator Lee Fitzpatrick said in an email to parents today the transition to remote learning will last until, at minimum, Friday. If the contact tracing impacts a large number of staff or students, the school will remain remote for the full length of the recommended quarantine.

Parents are encouraged to look at the student schedule immediately as it has changed since the last time students were remote, Fitzpatrick said in the email. Live instruction for their full course schedule starts Tuesday.

Information about schedules, how to access live instruction, and food distribution will be posted on the APS website.

In the meantime, Fitzpatrick said district officials will continue to monitor staffing levels as well as the presence of COVID-19 throughout the region.
