One more death reported

ALPENA– The rate of confirmed COVID-19 infections to residents in Northeast Michigan continues to dip, but with the reopening of restaurants and taverns, with restrictions, adhering to recommended precautions is encouraged.

Public health officials on Monday, reported seven newly infected Northeast Michiganders, including one Alpena County resident, and three Presque Isle County, and three Alcona County residents. There were no new confirmed infections in Montmorency County, but there was a new death announced to a resident who was infected with the virus.

State data showed that, as of Sunday, 8,509 doses of coronavirus vaccine had been administered in Northeast Michigan.

As of Monday, five people were hospitalized at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena with coronavirus infection, including four in intensive care, according to state data. The hospital was 34% full.

As of Monday, 33 people were hospitalized with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 infection across the state-designated, 18-county health care region that includes Alpena, Presque Isle, and Montmorency counties, according to state data.

Since the pandemic hit Michigan in mid-March, 2,723 Northeast Michiganders have been infected, according to local public health agencies. Of those, 95 have died.

Local public health officials have stopped tracking recoveries.
