Hubbard Lake Township firefighters empty a drop tank at the scene of a hunting camp fire on Kleve Road in Ossineke Township about 9 a.m. Sunday. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the hunting camp was a total loss, according to Hubbard Lake Township Fire Department Chief Mike Eller. The camp’s owner lived nearby and discovered the fire — too late for firefighters to save much, the owner said. A drop tank used to hold a water supply had to be filled using water from a dam some distance away. Firefighters learned afterward that the hunting camp property contained ponds that could have been used as a closer water source, Eller said. Firefighters from Wilson and Sanborn townships and the Alpena Fire Department also responded to the fire.
