ALPENA — A driver was taken into police custody late this morning after he caused a crash at the corner of U.S.-23 and Ripley Boulevard, police said.
The driver, who was handcuffed after Michigan State Police troopers administered a sobriety test, told police his brakes failed when he crashed his silver pickup truck into the back of a blue pickup as the two vehicles were headed west, nearing the Ripley Boulevard intersection.
The driver of the blue truck was taken to MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena with back pain. The at-fault driver, who walked unsteadily as he was escorted to the police vehicle, was checked by medical personnel but declined transport to the hospital.
