Local Government Roundup: Alpena County seeks Crime Victim Rights grant
∫ The Alpena County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the prosecutor’s office request to submit the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services fiscal year 2021 Crime Victim Rights Grant Renewal Application in the amount of $76,186. There is no required match from the county.
It also approved the 2021 Veterans Affairs Service Fund grant renewal application in the amount of $31,900, and the sheriff’s Office request to submit fiscal year 2020 Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding grant application in the amount of $36,448, with no county match.
The board also approved the probate’s office request to submit FY2020 Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Grant Application in the amount of $13,013.
The board approved the RS&H change order request for some last minute work done at the Alpena County Regional Airport. The change order is for $36,922.
The commissioners voted to approve the purchase of a 12’x24′ storage building for the animal control shelter from Northstar Storage Barns LLC out of Mio. The cost of the shed is $6,520.
∫ The Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the claims audit of Aug. 10, in the amount of $232,700.
The board also approved a request by Randy Martens to place an antenna on the county tower located on S. Ward Branch Road. The towner will be used for HAM radio operators. He has had a frequency study completed to make sure it does not interfere with the County Road Commission’s transmissions, which also uses the tower. He will have the county named as additional insured on his insurance policy and in return will do some maintenance to the outbuildings and remove old equipment that is no longer used at no cost to the county.
53rd Circuit Chief Judge, Aaron J. Gauthier, presented the board with an update of the past year in the circuit court and answered questions from the board.
∫ Julie Darnton, Michigan State Extension Director, presented the annual report for MSU-E. The passing of the millage was discussed and the programs offered by MSU-E to support the community. Darnton further shared her appreciation for the Millage passing.
The Alcona County Board of Commissioners adopted a pair of Municipal Employees Retirement System agreements. One would move retirees from Defined Benefit Division 13 to Division 01 and to move 911 active employees out of Division 02 to a separate new division.
The commissioners passed a proclamation to commemorate the 233 anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America with appropriate ceremonies and activities annually, the week of Sept 17th-23rd.
The board also voted to accept and sign the amended letter requesting a region change to Governor Whitmer and mail to ISD, ISD for Oscoda County, Mio, Alcona, Iosco Superintendents, AMAESD, State Reps, DHD2 and the Health Director.
