ALPENA – The 5th Annual Mahaz Family Spartan Scholarship was awarded to Alpena High School Senior Izzy Szymanski who plans to pursue a degree in Veterinary Science at Michigan State University. AHS Alumnus Michael Mahaz, Class of 1994, and his wife Courtney Mahaz made the decision to offer this scholarship to assist a graduate from Alpena High School who will attend their alma mater Michigan State University. The goal of the scholarship is to encourage the growth of future leaders from Alpena in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and business fields while utilizing the excellent educational opportunities provided by MSU. The winner receives $2,500 toward their MSU tuition.
