Firefighters work to extinguish a fire that engulfed a home on Bartz Road around 6:30 p.m. on Friday in Alcona County. No one was home when the fire began and no firefighters were injured while fighting the fire.

Firefighters from Hubbard Lake and Sanborn, Wilson, and Green townships responded to the fire.

Firefighters arrived at the home to find the basement burning and fire in the attic, according to Bill Hawley, assistant fire chief for Sanborn Township.

Hawley said the first floor gave out on firefighters and that the home had two roofs, making the fire difficult to extinguish. A live power line on one side of the building further complicated their ability to fight the fire.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

Deputies from the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
