Treasurer updates board on 2018 budget

HARRISVILLE — Alcona County Treasurer Cheryl Franks updated the Alcona County Board of Commissioners on the 2018 budget during Thursday’s meeting.

Franks said the county has spent 47.12 percent of its budget so far this year.

“We’ve put out almost half our budget and we’ve taken in 13 percent so that tells you where we are financially,” Franks said.

Last year at this time Alcona County had over $1 million in revenue and Franks said right now for 2018, the county is at over $679,000 in revenue.

“That is actual revenue,” she said.

Franks updated the commissioners so they’re informed about where the budget stands and see how the individual line items are doing.

“We did start out with a fund balance a lot lower than what we’ve had in the past and we haven’t gotten the money we’ve had in the past,” Franks said.

Board Chair Craig Johnston said the county is down in revenue in certain areas right now.

Franks said revenue sharing is a big part of the budget because of the transition where the county has its own revenue sharing fund that puts in money at the beginning of the year. She said that’s an example of why the revenue is down this year.

“We are getting our payments quarterly from the state,” she said.

Franks said she’s going to do monthly reports for the commissioners on the budget. She said she doesn’t have the investments or statements right now, but will have those the next time she updates the budget.

“Hopefully, next month will be better,” Franks said.
