Playground to get some upgrades in Rogers City

ROGERS CITY — The Rogers City Elementary School’s playground will receive some upgrades in july.

“The playground has been a topic of conversation since I arrived in 2015,” Principal Tamara Kuntz said. “We’ve had several people part of the discussions for the past three years.”

To update part of the playground there will be a community build at 8 a.m. July 14 at the elementary school.

“They will need volunteers, at least 15-30 volunteers here that day to help. There will be some digging of holes the day before and the gentlemen of the company will be here for a couple of days,” Kuntz said. “There’s also help needed other ways. If you can’t volunteer there will be a need for some food and water throughout the day a station to man the parts to make sure things are put in the right place.”

Anne Kosiara has worked to find grants to help cover costs, Kuntz said.

“It goes by much faster than what it seems. I went to one in Cheboygan and it was only a day and they were done. I was impressed by how fast it went,” school board member Deedra Haselhuhn said.

Kuntz said volunteers will start on the lower side playground and move to the upper side at a later time. She said the upper side has more parts and pieces and is a higher build.

“They’ll keep adding to the playground as more funds become available,” Kuntz said.

For now they request high school aged children and adults be present at the build.
