Ocqueoc Outdoor Center to host pair of events

ROGERS CITY — The Ocqueoc Outdoor Center will be the center of a couple events in the next couple of weeks.

First there will be a presentation at 8:15 p.m. Thursday at the Rogers City Theater.

“It’s at a different time because there’s a city band concert and we hope people attend the presentation after that,” Ocqueoc Outdoor Center Treasurer Dr. Mary Ann Heidemann said.

The presentation will focus on the upcoming renovations, history of the park and a video of the park will be shown as well.

Then on July 1 from 3-6 p.m. there will be a picnic for anyone who wants to visit the park located at 7142 Ocqueoc Lake Rd., Millersburg.

Heidemann said the picnic is free and encourages anyone to visit.

She said the center has received the grant it requested to start renovations. It was announced earlier this year the center received the Department of Natural Resources Passport grant for $74,000.

The money will be used for the garage building. It was a maintenance garage and woodshop at one point and the roof has started to cave in which needs to be addressed.

Once it’s finished the building will have multiple uses including a craft area and more.

Heidemann said the grant requires an architect oversee the project and Rick Neumann of Petoskey was selected.

She said he has worked on design plans, which needs to be approved by the state.

Once approved she hopes renovations can begin in September.

“We hope people come to the presentation and the picnic to see the wonderful park they have in the county,” Heidemann said.
