ALPENA — The Alpena Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is looking for a new or existing small business to

fill a recently vacant tiny shop at the Water Street Commons for the fall season and/or upcoming holiday season.

The fall season will consist of the remainder of September through the month of October, and the holiday

season will be November through the end of December. The applicant can apply for both seasons or just one.

Required hours for September are Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. October will also be Thursday through Saturday, with the hours to be determined. Required holiday hours are Saturdays and Sundays from small business Saturday (Nov. 29) through the end of December.

The available shop is 12 feet by 10 feet and the rental fee for September and October is $950 total (will be prorated based on move-in date) and the holiday season (November and December) is $650 total.

Selected businesses must follow the mandatory hours to ensure a collaborative and consistent experience for the community, but they are welcome to be open beyond mandatory hours and are welcome to be open the entire

month of November if they would like. Current vendors include Knaebe’s, Blu Blends Smoothies and Acai Bowls,

Birch Hill Grocery, Alpena Sourdough and Health Store and Mana Wellness.

DDA Administrative Assistant Savannah Peterson said Water Street Commons “has been a great addition to downtown Alpena and has brought so much life to that site. Watching it go from nothing to what is today has been amazing and it’s only going to get better.”

The deadline to apply to lease a tiny shop is Tuesday, Sept. 16, at midnight. Business applications will be

reviewed the following week.
