IN BRIEF

Free gun locks available at Alpena Police Department

For Gun Violence Awareness Month this June, the Alpena Police Department is committed to

promoting gun safety and will be providing local residents with free gun locks at the Public Safety Building on Chisholm Street. Gun locks will be provided in the lobby area during business hours.

The department encourages everyone who owns a firearm to store it safely when not in use and make it inaccessible to children or other unauthorized persons. A key goal of the department is to prevent a firearm from being left unsecured around the house where a child could access it.

A firearms safety brochure is included with every gun lock, and it explains the importance of safe handling and secure firearm storage.

Anyone needing further information can reach out to the department at 989-354-1800 or visit www.projectchildsafe.org.
