ALPENA — MyMichigan Medical Center is now accepting gently used hard and soft-covered novels, kid books, and cookbooks. Textbooks and magazines are not accepted. Books can be dropped off in the lobby behind the registration desk at the hospital in Alpena.

ALPENA — The Gone to Pieces Quilt Guild will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., when social time begins, and the meeting itself begins at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Alpena.
The VFW Posen Post 7804 chicken dinner will be held on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. The menu will include baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, coleslaw, homemade bread, and desserts. Adults: $15.00 Children five to 12 years old: $5.00 Free for children under five years old. Take-outs will be available and the event is handy-cap accessible.
