Grace Episcopal Church dinner

ALPENA - Grace Episcopal Church will host it's monthly dinner will be on Friday. This month the church will again be having an ice cream Social with hot dogs, sandwiches, assorted cold salads, homemade breads, and baked beans. Also, there will also be a nice assortment of homemade pies and desserts, and ice cream with all the toppings. The event is slated for 4 to 6 p.m. and cost is by donation. This month, part of our proceeds will be going to The Alpena County Fair Society. For questions, please call 989-464-1141.

HARRISVILLE - Though the buildings are gone, the history of the Sturgeon Point Life Saving Station (SPLSS) remains. The United States Life Saving Service (USLLS) was created in 1871 to rescue mariners shipwrecked or in distressed along the U.S coastlines. Near shore shipping traffic was heavy. Massive storms, shallow waters, rocky reefs and on ship fires were the causes of many seafaring incidents. In 1876 a Station was built on the grounds where the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse is today. Book sale at Alpena hospital

ALPENA — The MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena Volunteers are hosting a used book sale on Friday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. The book sale will be held in the hospital lobby. Due to overflow and storage, the volunteers are unable to accept books at this time, but do appreciate donations and will post when it’s able to start accepting again.
