AAACU employees honored for achievement, years of service

ALPENA — Congratulations to Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union team members Denise Chapman, accounting specialist, Adam Degen, mortgage processor, and Alison Jakubcin, marketing specialist/Wildcat Branch supervisor, on being the recipients of the 2020 Personal Achievement Award during AAACU’s Annual Board and Staff Holiday Party.

The Personal Achievement Award is given to AAACU employees who have dedicated their own time and made a conscious effort toward improving themselves educationally over the past year. Certain criteria is evaluated when making a selection for this award, such as credit union related courses the applicant is currently taking or have completed, attendance at credit union training events and seminars, community involvement, and attendance at credit union and chapter events.

Denise, Adam, and Alison all work full-time while attending college. Denise is enrolled with Northwood University pursuing a degree in Accounting, while Adam and Alison are currently enrolled through Alpena Community College. Adam is pursuing a degree in Business Information Systems- Administrative Professional, and Alison is pursuing a degree in Marketing.

“Congratulations to this year’s award recipients,” a press release stated. “We are proud to have team members dedicated to improving themselves professionally and personally.”

Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union also recognized employees for milestone years of service. Each year AAACU holds an Annual Board and Employee Holiday Party. Due to COVID-19 this year’s party was held via Zoom meeting where nine AAACU team members and volunteers were given recognition for milestone years of service to the credit union movement. Together, they had a combined total of 205 years of credit union service.

For five years of service, recognition was given to Clay Bauer, IS/network specialist.

For 15 years of service, recognition was given to Jennifer McDonald, investment specialist, and Alan Shillair, retired board member.

For 20 years of service, recognition was given to Denise Chapman, accounting specialist, and Terry Nelkie, board treasurer.

For 25 years of service, recognition was given to Karen LaFleche, Alpena North Branch manager.

For 30 years of service, recognition was given to Ann Genschaw, operations support specialist.

For 35 years of service, recognition was given to Joan Myles, Oscoda Branch manager.

For 40 years of service, recognition was given to Charlie Negro, board chairperson.

“We are proud to celebrate our team members and volunteers and their dedication to the credit union,” a press release stated.

AAACU serves members primarily in Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency, and Iosco counties with 9 locations: a main office located in Alpena, with branch offices in Ossineke, Lincoln, a Tiger Branch in Alcona Community Schools, Atlanta, Oscoda, the Owl’s Nest in Oscoda Area Schools, Tawas, and an additional branch in Alpena. As of October 31, 2020, AAACU provides service to 30,615 members with total assets equal to $443,737,615.
