ALPENA — Bay Urban, owned by Bay Athletic Club, celebrated 13 years of service, fitness, and community in downtown Alpena with their Birthday Extravaganza Workout on Saturday.

“We opened Urban 13 years ago here in downtown,” Alyssa LaVergne, the club’s group and personal trainer and communication coordinator, said. “We wanted to offer large group classes, boot camps to all ages and all abilities as a place for people to come together and cheer each other on and make fitness more fun.”

The event was free to all club members, and those who attended were able to perform all of the top exercises that the club had to offer while music blared in the background. The exercises consisted of total resistance training, boxing, and ride and strength training on the bikes.

“Our members really enjoy the circuit-style workouts where they can kind of move around the room, utilize all of our equipment,” LaVergne said. “Things like cycling, TRX, and then boxing are our newest additions.”

LaVergne states that she was happy with how the event turned out and is looking forward to continuing to provide a service to Alpena.

“Thirteen years is certainly a big deal as it has made a huge difference in our community,” LaVergne said. “I would say that we’ve seen many faces here, coming through, and we still see a lot of those same faces to this day. I think what we’ve done is a really good job of keeping things fresh, unique, and exciting. This is a great space to celebrate events. And we’ve just done a really good job of keeping everyone engaged and fresh and having a good time down here.”
