Professional artist Erwin P. Lewandowski of Alpena was notified recently that his colored pencil drawing, “Cascading Water XV,” was awarded First Place in the Landscape/Seascape/Cityscape Category of Drawn Together by the Coloured Pencil Community of Australasia, Inc. The association of colored pencil artists is based in Sydney, Australia, and aims to educate, connect, and promote cp artists within Australia and the surrounding region.

“What a marvelous introduction to this new group. I joined the cpcau.org earlier this year after viewing their list of members that included many friends and talented artists from around the world,” said Lewandowski. “I was particularly touched by the words of the juror, Sally Robertson, editor in chief of Colored Pencil Magazine, who shared the following comment about my entry: ‘I simply don’t know how Erwin does what he does. He is able to create this waterscape in a way that you can feel the creek flow as you distinguish wet from dry rock, leaving you to study, in awe, his work for extended periods of time.'”

Lewandowski is one of eight Michigan-based artists scheduled for a special exhibition sponsored by the Charlevoix Circle of Arts this summer in Charlevoix. The event, Pencil & Paper, will showcase drawings by some of the top artists working with pencils in the state. The event is slated to run from June 14 through August 10, at the Charlevoix Circle of Arts Gallery.

Lewandowski was recently informed that the Blick Company, one of the largest art supply sources for artists, requested permission to use one of his colored pencil drawings in a marketing ad slated for release in the May issue of Colored Pencil Magazine.

Lewandowski will be hosting a number of colored pencil workshops this summer in Alpena, Traverse City, and Brea, California.

The artist and his wife, Mary, reside along the shoreline of Lake Huron in Alpena. To learn more about the artist, visit his website at www.erwinplewandowski.com.
