The Law Enforcement Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Area 3 is just around the corner.

The 12th Annual Alpena Polar Plunge will take place at the SandBar & Grill on Long Lake on Saturday, Feb. 16. Before the Polar Plunger kicks off, the SandBar & Grill will be offering a full standard breakfast buffet from 8 to 11 a.m., for a minimum $5 donation, with all proceeds going to The Polar Plunge.

Registration for the plunge will begin at noon. The Parade of Costumes starts at 1 p.m., and the plunge will promptly follow the parade. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a live auction. The live auction will begin after the last plunger. Live auction items are valued at over $6,000, to include a Powerstroke 6,000-watt generator, $650 grill package with steaks and Pampered Chef products included, Pork BBQ for 100 people, homemade picnic table and stand alone swing from the AHS Woodworking class, and more.

Plungers are welcome to show up the day of the event to participate. There is a $75 registration fee that gets the plunger a 2019 Alpena Plunge commemorative shirt. “Over the last couple years we have had great support from the community,” stated Michigan State Police Alpena Community Service Trooper Ashley Simpson. “Plungers have come out braving the weather, taking the plunge, all while having fun raising money for such an important cause. With the support of the community donating to those plungers and the efforts of the committee, this year’s plunge is on track to potentially raise more than the 2018 plunge.”

There will be an After-Splash Bash starting shortly after the awards ceremony at the SandBar & Grill, featuring a Mexican buffet.
