ALPENA — It was a pleasure for the Kiwanis Club of Alpena to present two scholarships to two deserving students from Alpena High School, who will be attending Alpena Community College (ACC). At Kiwanis, the mission is simple, but powerful: to serve the children of the world and support the next generation of community leaders, caregivers, and professionals … making the world a better place, one child and one community at a time.
Each year, the Kiwanis club awards scholarships to students who not only demonstrate academic promise, but also a commitment to service, community, and hard work. On Monday, June 9, the Kiwanis Club of Alpena continued that tradition by recognizing two outstanding individuals who represent the spirit of Kiwanis and the future of our region.
The first scholarship was awarded to Kaitlyn Farley, who intends to pursue her education as a student in the ACC Nursing Program — a field that demands compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. Farley has the additional attribute of being a graduating member of the Alpena Kiwanis Key Club — a service leadership program for high school students. This scholarship reflects the deep appreciation for Farley’s efforts and for those who choose this noble path.
The second scholarship supports Jared Johnson, who intends to become a student in the ACC Utility Technology Program or what is often called the Lineman Program. These are the skilled professionals who keep our communities powered and connected, often working in difficult and dangerous conditions. Kiwanis is pleased to support this educational opportunity.
The Kiwanis Club of Alpena believes both of these students are not only investing in their own futures, but in the future of Alpena and the surrounding region. The club is proud to play a small part in helping them on their way. Congratulations to these scholarship recipients.
