ACC Growers plant sale Thursday, Saturday

ACC Growers, who are members of the Alpena Garden Club, will have their annual sale from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The sale is held at the Alpena Community College greenhouse area off Woodward Avenue (across from Northern Lights Arena). They will be selling tomatoes, peppers, herbs and flowers, including hanging baskets. There will also be a perennial plant sale at the same time (only Thursday) at the same location, of plants donated by garden club members. Bring boxes to take your plants home in.

Circus Thursday at Northern Lights Arena

Blood drive Friday at Alcona library

Versiti will be hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday in the conference room of the Alcona County Library, 312 W. Main Street, Harrisville. Michigan best-selling author Campbell speaking Friday

Michigan Notable Book and best-selling author Bonnie Jo Campbell will be speaking about her book, “The Waters: A Novel” at 11 a.m. on Friday at Alpena County Library. “The Waters” takes place in the fictional Great Massasauga Swamp — an area known as “The Waters” to the residents of nearby Whiteheart, Michigan.

AHS Class of 1954 reunion Friday

Dinner Friday at Grace Episcopal

Grace Episcopal Church on Long Rapids Road in Lachine will host a soup and sandwich dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, with homemade pies and desserts. The cost is by donation, and this month, part of the proceeds will be donated to Sunrise Mission.

Swings for Seniors golf outing June 14

The second annual Swings for Seniors four-person golf outing will be held on Saturday, June 14 at Alpena Golf Club. The cost is $80 per person for non-AGC members, and $60 each for AGC members, which includes 18 holes, cart rental, and lunch. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Meals on Wheels program at Alpena Senior Citizens Center.

The event will feature a putting contest sponsored by Bogey’s Indoor Golf with a prize of a new putter, a longest drive contest sponsored by Robert Barrigar Insurance Agency with a prize of a new driver, a contest for closest to the pin for a golf gift package valued at $250, and two huge hole-in-one prizes: Hole #3 — $30,000 toward a new GMC from Alpena GMC, and Hole #13 — $10,000 cash prize from Assured Partners.

Bridge results announced

Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club winners have been announced for this week. Jackie Kennedy and Loretta Reynolds placed first, followed by Beverley Rousseau and Marcy Sherman in second, and Jan Kane and Ron Young in third.
