Norwegian dinner Nov. 1 at Grace Lutheran
ALPENA — Grace Lutheran Church is hosting a traditional Norwegian meatball dinner on Friday, Nov. 1 to celebrate its 150th anniversary and raise funds to support its 150th fund, which will be used for community outreach programs including the Little Food Pantry.
Located at 119 W. Dunbar St., the church was established in 1873 by Norwegian community members who had come to Alpena for new opportunity. Since it was established, the church has remained in the same site on Dunbar Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. The current church building was constructed in 1882.
The dinner is being organized by congregation members and takes place at 6 p.m. on Friday.
A to-go option is available with pick-up between 5 and 6 p.m. The menu includes traditional Norwegian meatballs, mashed potatoes, green been casserole, and Norwegian sweets for dessert, including krumkake, a waffle cookie that is filled with whipped cream and fresh fruit. Many of the recipes being used for the dinner come from congregation members who have Norwegian ties.
All members of the community are invited to enjoy the meal and meet new community members.
Tickets are $20 and must be confirmed by Tuesday, Oct. 29. Those interested in reserving tickets should contact Grace’s office manager by emailing officemanager@gracelutheran-alpena.org or calling 989-354-2640.
