ALPENA — The Water Wonderland Board of Realtors recognizes and awards Margie Haaxma of Banner Realty as their 2024 Good Neighbor Award honoree.

The award recognizes a Realtor who has made an extraordinary commitment to community service on the local level. Candidates are judged based on their contribution, the impact of their work, and their leadership skills. The winner receives a grant of $500 for the charity organization in their name.

Haaxma, a Realtor and Broker/Owner of Banner Realty in Alpena, was recognized and awarded this prestigious award for all her extraordinary commitment to the Salvation Army of Alpena. Since 1880, The Salvation Army has provided disaster relief on the spot, shelter, utilities, spiritual council, food, clothing, toys at Christmas, nursing homes, gifts, back to school items, plus much more.

Haaxma has the heart for giving of herself, in many ways, time and financially. For 33 years, she has been a supporter of the Salvation Army of Alpena. Last year, she made major contributions to the Red Kettle Campaign, and her company did the same. She was named 2023 Red Kettle Honorary Chairperson to help achieve the goal and meet local needs of $165,000. With her extra ordinary effort, she achieved $184,000, exceeding this goal. She set a nonprofit challenge for most hours ringing the bell, awarding the top nonprofit organization. She supported the Salvation Army in many ways in 2023.

“The Good Neighbor Awards celebrate Realtors’ dedication to bettering their communities,” said Water Wonderland Board of Realtors Association Executive Jeannie Rizzardi. “Margie deserves an extra round of applause for all her efforts volunteering for this organization and helping reach the goals set and exceeding them.”
