Growing Green Garden Luncheon Saturday in R.C.

ROGERS CITY — Welcome Spring with the Presque Isle Garden Club. The 13th Annual Growing Green Luncheon will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 1401 M-68 Highway, Rogers City. Doors open at 8:45 a.m.

Topics are: What’s New 2024 from Netta’s of Posen, Garden Maintenance with Nancy and Friends, Your Landscaped Trees with Forester Jacob Grochowski, and Delightful Daylilies with Kris.

Drop-in concerts with Dr. Tom at Alpena library

ALPENA — Alpena County Library will host “Words and Music” free monthly drop-in lunchtime concerts from noon to 1 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month beginning April 10.

Bring your lunch (and musical appetite) and join Dr. Tom for a concert in the Stillion Conference Room. April 10th’s theme is The Songs of Johnny Mercer. Mercer wrote more lyrics in the Great American Songbook than anyone else, collaborating with more than 100 composers. Songs include saloon torch song “One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)”; movie songs “Moon River” and “Days of Wine and Roses”; romantic ballads like “Come Rain or Come Shine” and “I Thought About You”; rhythm tunes like “That Old Black Magic”; Translations (yes) like “Glow Worm” and “The Summer Wind” and more. The library is located at 211 N. 1st Ave., Alpena.

MCL Polish dinner, prize drawing April 20

ALPENA — The Marine Corps League Alpena Detachment is hosting a Polish dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 in the Canteen of the VFW on Connon Street. Dinner includes pierogies, sauerkraut and sausage, potatoes, dinner roll and your choice of desserts. This is dine-in or take-out. The cost for the dinner is $15 per person. For take-outs, please call the Canteen at 989-340-0385. This marks the final night for the Ace of Spades drawing. Names will be drawn until there is a winner. The prize is over $1,700. You do not need to be present to win. The dinner and drawing is open to the public.

Genealogical Society hosting free program

ALPENA — The Northeast MI Genealogical Society will present Exploring Your Roots at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26 at the Alpena County Library, in the Judy Stillion Conference room upstairs. A tour of the Special Collections and Archives will be included in this presentation. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.
