VFW 2496 Auxiliary funds door project

ALPENA — Volunteers at the VFW 2496 Post in Alpena recently installed new insulated doors purchased by the Auxiliary from Frank’s Key and Lock Shop in Alpena. Darryl McQuarrie and D&M Collision prepped, primed, and painted the doors. Volunteers included Darryl McQuarrie, Dave McQuarrie, Jim Kelly, Bob Wilson, and Don Anderson.
The VFW 2496 Auxiliary met at 6 p.m. on Oct. 10 with 19 members attending. Before the meeting, members attended a joint stroke recognition session presented by My Michigan Health. Thank-you notes were read from the Foster Closet and St. Jude for donations made last month.
Donations of canned goods for Veterans Day are still needed. On Oct. 23 a Halloween party for the Mental Health Adult Activity Group will take place in the hall. An Octoberfest celebration will be held Oct. 28 with dinner and music starting at 4 p.m.
The next District 13 meeting will be Nov. 4 in Onaway.
On Veterans’ Day, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Little Flanders Field will be a ceremony followed by lunch at the VFW and donations of desserts are requested.
A craft fair will be held in the hall on Nov. 18.
Members that participated in the highway cleanup and flag removal were thanked.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m. and the next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Nov. 14.
