Kids gather for 4-H Youth Day
More than 75 Alpena County 4-H youth gathered Aug. 3 for the annual 4-H Youth Day.
Youth Day is an event to showcase the youth’s achievements and projects and hard work they have put in over the last year.
Youth can choose from 22 categories to be evaluated on. 4-H members present their project to a judge in an interview-style format, where they engage in conversation and answer questions about how they did the project, things they learned, and things they might do differently next time.
Judges then use a rubric and point system to give members ribbons based on their score, with points gathered from their presentation and depth and knowledge of their project. Ribbons are for Honor Group, Honorable Mention, or Successful Completion. The 4-H’ers who receive an Honor Group ribbon are then in the running for the Best of Show and Reserve Best of Show for that category.
