Memories make life sweeter

Senior Attitudes

You’re not as young as you used to be, but not as old as you’re going to be, so watch out!

It is good when memory brings back the sweetness there was in life, not just the sorrows. No road is without hills and ravines. The magic comes with climbing up and over and ending with a light heart.

I count on my dog to relieve me of depression. How can you not laugh at the antics of the family pet? I laugh at the way he chases but never catches the deer and squirrels. I believe they laugh at him as well. His warm body comforts me as he snuggles in next to me as I sleep.

As much as I love my children, my dog, Frankie is my best friend and companion. All of my children have inherited my love of animals. When they were little we inherited or rescued rabbits, dogs, cats, lizards, a duck, and a guinea pig, just to name a few. When they grew up and left home, I was the one left to care for it all. I have not let them know that I didn’t mind, or I’d have another menagerie at my house.

I am in Las Vegas heading to San Antonio for the unpackaged joy in my life, my first and only great-grandchild. It is hard for me to explain, but other grandparents will understand how full your heart becomes with a new addition to the family. As he is my great-grandchild, he has already found his love of animals and of being “Up North.” Who knows, maybe one day he will take my place as an A.L.L. board member.

Life lasts only so long, so it is good when memories bring back the sweetness.
