Plant sale at AHS starts today

Alpena High School Agriscience CTE students will host a spring plant sale from 3 to 6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Alpena High School greenhouse, near the back oval of the high school, accessible from the Garden Street entrance.

All plants have been planted from seed or plug by the AHS agriscience students this semester. Vegetable plants available include tomatoes, peppers, herbs, cucumbers, and many others. Flowering plants include several varieties of hanging baskets including petunias, mixed combinations, fushias, and calibrachoa. Individual flowering annuals will also be available including several varieties of geraniums, petunias, impatiens, marigolds, morning glories, and many other varieties. There will also be plants for pollinators such as purple coneflower, bee balm, butterfly weed, and mixed wildflower planters. A variety of succulents and houseplants will also be available.

Students from the program will be at the sale to answer questions about plant care and to assist community members in purchasing and loading plants.All proceeds from the sale directly benefit future greenhouse and agriscience projects.

CCHS Class of 1971 sets date

The CCHS Class of 1971 50-year class reunion date has been set for 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6 at Alpena Golf Club. Classmates are asked to save the date.

Bridge results announced

Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club winners this week were Gordon Bennett and Marge French in first place. A tie for second place went to Loretta Reynolds and Audrey Stevens, and Eve Phillips and Beverley Rousseau. In third place were Deanna Brege and Gayle Nowak. The group meets at 12:30 p.m. on Mondays. Ossineke Eagles dinner May 28

The Ossineke Eagles Club will host a barbecue chicken dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 28.

The menu includes mashed potatoes, corn, homemade bread, and dessert. Donations of dessert dishes are appreciated. The cost is $14 per person.

Garden Day Saturday at Alpena Farmers Market

The Alpena Farmers Market is partnering with MSU Extension on a special spring Garden Day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. In addition to the market vendors, there will be exhibits with gardening supplies, information and experts to answer your questions.

The Friends of the Farmers Market will have beautiful hanging flower baskets available for purchase — all baskets will be $25. The event is during the regular Saturday market at Mich-e-ke-wis Park. For more information, contact Mary Dunckel at MSU Extension at 989-354-9875 or dunckelm@msu.edu.

AHS 1952 to meet Aug. 13

The Alpena High School Class of 1952 will meet for their 70th reunion at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13 at the 19th Hole restaurant.

Attendees will order off the menu. Classmates are encouraged to make an effort to attend.
