Yes, kitten yoga is a thing; it happened at Alpena Community College
Kitten adoption event today in Alpena
ALPENA — Alpena Community College and Second Chance Animal Shelter offered a unique yoga experience on Wednesday at the college.
Kitten yoga, the brainchild of Lisa Blumenthal, ACC community education coordinator, gave participants the opportunity to both exercise and bond with kittens up for adoption.
Kittens will be available for adoption from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m today at Kadrich Family Chiropractic, 1019 U.S.-23 N. A bottle and can drive will also be held in conjunction with the adoptathon.
Linda Stewart, a trustee on the board at Second Chance, said the six kittens at yoga all need homes.
“It shows how fun cats can be,” Stewart said. “Cats can be so calming. It brings so much to your spirit to play. Animals will always love you.”
Blumenthal said “it’s nice to get them out of the shelter environment and socialize.”
“It’s all about the inner child, letting that silly, playful, uninhibited nature come forth,” kitten yoga instructor Desiree Nowaczyk said. “Animals are easy to love, because they don’t have egos. I feel like they ooze unconditional love.”
She added that the late Maggie McDermid said “kitties are little drops of the divine wrapped in fur.”
