Lewandowski to judge Besser Museum Juried Art Show

ALPENA — The Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan Juried Art Exhibition has a new date.

Art entries for the Besser Museum 2021 Juried Art Exhibit will be accepted on Thursday, July 29 through Aug. 5. This year’s Juried Art Exhibition will take place August 16 through October 31.

Artists may submit one art entry for a single non-refundable fee of $20. Artists are limited to three entries for a total non-refundable fee of $60. Michigan artists 18 years of age or older are welcome to enter artworks. Entries can be any medium and must be original works of the artist’s own creation there were completed in the last five years. All artworks must be framed or mounted and ready to exhibit.

Awards will be presented for first place ($300 plus solo exhibition in 2022), second place ($200) and third place ($100).

This year’s juror is an Alpena native artist, Erwin Lewandowski. Lewandowski maintains a studio/residence along the shoreline of Lake Huron in Alpena. He is a graduate of the Fine Arts Department at Central Michigan University and received additional training at Eastern Michigan University.

His career as a professional artist began in 2004 following 25 years of business development and management. Today he is an award-winning national artist with representation throughout parts of the U.S. He is a two-time recipient of Best in Drawing from the prestigious International Guild of Realism, has achieved Signature Status (CPSA and CPX) with the Colored Pencil Society of America, and Masters Status (MPAS) with the Pencil Art Society of Canada. His artwork and articles have been featured in Drawing Magazine, Colored Pencil Magazine, American Art Collector, CP Magazine, UK Coloured Pencil News, Pencil Art Society News, Australian Coloured Pencil News, CP News from CPSA Chapters in Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angeles, on public and commercial television, and in dozens of market publications.

The schedule for the 2021 Juried Art Exhibit is as follows:

July 29 to Aug. 5: Delivery of work and fee.

Aug. 6-9: Art selection and jury process

Aug. 16 to Oct. 31 ­– Juried Exhibit

Winners will be announced at the public open house artists reception from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21. The solo exhibition of the 2020 Juried Art winner, Stephanie LaFramboise, will also open on Saturday, Aug. 21.
