SUNRISE SIDE BULLETIN BOARD

MOCA held meeting

The regular meeting of the MOC Auxiliary was held on Tuesday, April 20, with seven members in attendance. President Roxann Buchler opened the meeting at 6 p.m. Fines were declared and paid. The minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report were read and approved as read. The treasurer’s report was filed, subject to audit.

All officers were in their chairs. No petitions for membership were submitted. If any VFW Auxiliary members in good standing are reading this, please consider joining the MOC Auxiliary. More members are needed. The group does great things for the VA Hospitals and the community.

An audit was performed prior to the meeting. Two Year Trustee Barb Mouthaan read the report. A motion was made and carried to accept this report as read. The treasurer reported she filed a tax report on the 1099.

A motion was made to send money to the Grand Treasurer for the scholarship fund. This motion was carried.

It’s convention time, and discussion was held on selecting delegates to the convention. Because the local MOCA is small, the auxiliary will only submit four names. There will be one delegate and three alternates.

The VFW hall will be closed May 17, 18, and 19 for boiler repairs. The next MOCA meeting is changed to 6 p.m. on May 25.

Nothing further came before this meeting. Roxann closed the meeting at 6:45 p.m., with a reminder next month is the fourth Tuesday, not the third. The 50/50 winners were Barb Mouthaan and Patty Kucharek. Winona Raquepaw’s name was drawn for the “Pot.”

GLLMM to host bell ringing for Cedarville

The Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum in Rogers City is hosting a Memorial Bell Ringing for the lost sailors from the Cedarville sinking. The ceremony will be held at the museum at 1 p.m. on May 1.

Due to the COVID-19 virus and the resulting state restrictions, the number of people allowed in the museum will be limited to 30 people maximum. Please call the museum at 989-734-0706 to make a reservation. If the museum is closed, please leave your name and the person you will ring for in a message. Organizers ask that families limit the number of attendees to one or two. Priority will be given to family members.

Masks must be worn and social distancing will be practiced, according to recommendations. If restrictions get stricter, the museum may be forced to do a virtual ceremony. The museum will keep everyone informed as the date approaches. Please refer to the GLLMM Facebook page for any updates.
