Salvation Army needs supplies

The Salvation Army is in desperate need of the following essential cleaning and personal protection items: hand soap, nitrile gloves, paper towels, sanitizing wipes, and toilet paper. Supplies can be dropped off at Corps Community Centers and will be used to support shelter residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Donations, big or small, will not be turned away at your local Corps Community Center. The Salvation Army is also in great need of volunteers to help distribute supplies to everyone who comes to their local Corps Community Center for help. Safety precautions will be in full effect for in-person volunteers.

Besser Foundation Full-Tuition Scholarship deadline extended

Because the closing of Alpena Community College campus buildings may affect students’ ability to submit scholarship applications by the original deadline — which was March 20 — the Besser Foundation Full-Tuition Scholarship deadline has been extended to Friday, March 27. Applications must be submitted via mail, fax, or email.

Five scholarships are available. Full-tuition, multi-year scholarships will be awarded to one student pursuing an associate degree in each of the following programs: business administration, concrete technology, nursing, and utility technology programs, as well as one student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Systems Technology.  Each scholarship will cover tuition, fees, books and supplies, and will be renewable each academic year needed to complete the degree. The scholarships will be administered through the ACC Foundation.

Students interested in applying for this one-time-only scholarship assistance should visit www.alpenacc.edu and navigate to the scholarship page via the Donate-ACC Foundation tab on the top of the homepage to view full scholarship criteria and to print an application.

Mail applications to:  ACC Office of Financial Aid, 665 Johnson St., Alpena, MI 49707. Fax applications to: 989-358-7541. Email applications to: accfinaid@alpenacc.edu.

For questions, contact ACC Foundation Executive Director Brenda Herman at 989-358-7297 or hermanb@alpenacc.edu.
