Hillman VFW Auxiliary planning April banquet

The VFW Auxiliary 2356 meeting was held at the post on Feb. 4 in Hillman. President Thomas Brown called the meeting to order at 6 p.m.

Many things were discussed including the backing of the Quilt of Valor Program. A brief discussion was held in regard to the mid-winter conference.

The banquet menu sign-up sheet was passed around for members to sign up for, should they choose to contribute to the VOD (Voice of Democracy) PP (Patriot Pen) and Patriotic Art, Teacher of the Year banquet. This banquet will take place on April 4. Awards will be presented around 4 p.m. with dinner following for those who participated in the programs. This event is by invitation and those will be mailed at the end of February with RSVP’s to be back to the coordinator by March 27. This is vital as the VFW Auxiliary needs to make sure they have enough food and places set.

The next meeting is at 6 p.m. on March 4 at the post home.

Aircraft club meets Mon.

Chapter 1021 of the Experimental Aircraft Association meets at 7 p.m. Monday at Alpena County Regional Airport. To attend the meeting, contact President Don Grabiel to arrange a pass to gain access to the field at 989-464-5348. The meeting is inside the EAA clubhouse/hangar. You do not have to be a pilot or own an aircraft to attend. Anyone with an interest in aviation is welcome at these meetings, held on the second Monday each month.

Brush Creek Mill to hold annual meeting Monday

Brush Creek Mill will hold its annual board meeting at 10 a.m. Monday at the mill, 121 S. State St. in Hillman. If you wish to speak at the meeting, call 989-742-2527.

The annual board meeting is open to the public. The agenda will include the program for the year, committee reports, volunteer/job openings, a review of finances, a review of the past years, and a look to the future.

Artists’ reception Tues. at Harrisville library

An artists’ reception for Trish Davis and Carol Preuss will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Harrisville branch of Alcona County Library. Refreshments will be provided by Friends of the Library. Artwork will be on display until March 9. Call 989-724-6796 for more information.

Chronic pain group to meet in R.C. Monday

A chronic pain support group meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Rogers City at Peace Lutheran Church on M-68 on the second Monday of the month, for anyone living with chronic pain. If you have questions, contact facilitators Lee Bingle at 989-734-3682, or Dianne Darga at 989-734-4721.

Writers’ group meets Tuesday at the library

The Alpena Writers’ Group meets from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the upstairs conference room at Alpena County Library.
