Audubon Society meeting Wed.

Thunder Bay Audubon Society will hold a business meeting at noon on Wednesday at Twin Acres 19th Hole Restaurant in Alpena.

Meag Schwartz, network coordinator from the Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative, will speak at the meeting. The group will also review recent results from the Christmas Bird Count, review the budget, and hand out new 2020 event brochures.

Alcona radio group meets Thurs.

The Alcona County Amateur Radio Group will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the EMS/EOC building, 2600 East M-72.

Anyone interested in amateur radio emergency and public service communications is invited to attend. Free refreshments will be served.

Boy Scouts bottle drive Saturday

Boy Scouts Troop 92 and Cub Scouts 3092 will be holding a bottle drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church parking lot. To schedule a pick up, call Chris Harsch at 9889-464-0264.

Marine Corps League collects money, toys for Toys for Tots

The Marine Corps League Alpena Detachment 1327 held a dinner to raise money for the Toys for Tots. Along with several donated toys, a check for $1,000 was presented to the representative of the Marine Corps Reserve. The local Toys for Tots program distributes toys to children in Alpena and Alcona counties.

VFW kids holiday party a success

Once again the annual VFW Post 2496 Kids Christmas Party was held from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22. Children experienced the wonder of Christmas with holiday crafts, music, lunch and a free gift from Santa Claus. The VFW is appreciative of Home Depot for providing the craft supplies, and to those who volunteered to help in some way.

Bridge winners announced

Last week’s Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club winners were Gayle Nowak and Deanna Brege in first place, Mark Wolshom and Dale Middleditch in second place, and Linda Clegg and Marge French in third place.
