Holiday Crafternoon kicks off Season of Light at Besser Museum

The Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan is inviting families to the Big Holiday Crafternoon from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.

This event is a $1 family fun day and the annual opening to the Museum’s Season of Light tree display.

Rumor has it that Santa himself will be in attendance, so be on your best behavior and don your holiday cheer for family photo opportunities.

Activity stations will be located all around the building including wood and paper crafts, Victorian era crafts, and cookie decorating. Featured annual displays include Roll Out the Red, Trees of Nations, Community Trees, and Avenue of Shops.

The planetarium will host $1 showings of “Star of Bethlehem,” which asks, “What really was the star that the Wisemen saw?” Attendees explore several possibilities including comets, meteors, and other phenomena and examine the origins of some Christmas traditions we celebrate today.

For questions, call the museum at 989-356-2202, visit the Facebook event, or visit bessermuseum.org.

Besser Museum’s Season of Light is sponsored in part by Alpena Power Company. The display will be up from Saturday to Jan. 5. Tickets will be available at the door.

Exhibiting groups include Hubbard Lake Red Hatters, Hope Shores Alliance, Lions Club, NOAA, First Presbyterian Church, Downtown Development Authority, Alpena 4-H, Thunder Bay Arts, Brown Trout Festival, Alpena County Animal Facility, League of Women Voters, Boys & Girls Club, Baby Pantry, Alpena Senior Citizens Center, and Thunder Bay River Center.
